Richard Poe
Born and raised in Syracuse, New York, Poe attended Syracuse University from age 16 to 19 (1975 - 1978) and received his diploma at age 20 (spring, 1979) with Honors in Creative Writing (BA). He studied Russian in college, and spent a summer at Leningrad State University, USSR in 1978.
Poe studied poetry with Allen Ginsberg at Naropa Institute and wrote his first novel - never submitted for publication - while living in San Francisco in 1981.
Poe subsequently turned to writing about business and entrepreneurship, first for Venture magazine, then as senior editor for Success, in which capacity he made frequent trips to the Soviet Union to cover the burgeoning new business scene there.
Poe left Success to become a fulltime author in 1992.
Poe's second book, Wave 3 :The New Era in Network Marketing (Prima, 1994) and its sequel, The Wave-3 Way to Building Your Downline (Prima, 1996) have sold over half a million copies in the U.S., and are available in seven foreign languages.
Both appeared simultaneously on the Business Week bestseller list in November 1996. The Wave-3 Way rose to number five on the New York Times business bestseller list, that same month. The "Wave" series continues, with Wave 4: Network Marketing in the 21st Century (Prima 1999) and The Wave-4 Way to Building Your Downline (Prima 2000).
